PARSIPPANY, NJ - August 22, 2002 ... Acuent Inc., a full-service systems integrator, today announced that it has been competitively awarded a contract with the U.S. Army to support the Army Chief Technology Office (CTO) and the Army Knowledge Online (AKO) portal. The Army CTO administers the AKO portal, which added its millionth account in May 2002, making it one of the largest intranets in the world.
The AKO portal, located at www.us.army.mil, provides active duty service members, the Army National Guard, the Army Reserves, Department of the Army civilians and Army retirees with e-mail accounts, distance-learning opportunities, search engines, instant messaging, an online collaboration center and chat rooms. Users can access Army forms and regulations, data on installations, change-of-station information and general news through the portal.
InfoWorld ranked the U.S. Army 10th out of the top 100 innovative organizations for the AKO portal, and CIO Magazine honored the U.S. Army CTO with the Web Business 50 Award. Acuent contributed to these awards through more than three years of IT support services, including software development and integration, network engineering and system administration, global help desk/call center operations, systems engineering and Internet data warehousing.
"Acuent is excited to have played a part in the overwhelming success of the AKO portal," said Tom Ferrando, president and COO of Acuent. "This U.S. Army contract is a significant next step for Acuent and an important move toward fulfilling the Army's objective to use the AKO for most of the service's internal business."
The U.S. Army contract is for a base period of one year with four one-year options.
